Do you need to present a translated invoice to a company, a foreign supplier, or a government agency?
Whether it is a customs procedure , an international tender or a tax case , certified translation of invoices is often required to guarantee the legal and accounting value of the document.
DocuTrad, an expert platform in certified translation , explains how to have your invoices translated correctly and according to current administrative standards.
Why translate your invoices?
An invoice is a legal and financial document , and in the context of international exchanges, it must be perfectly understandable by local authorities and foreign partners.
Common cases where translation is required:

  • Submission of import/export documentation ,
  • International accounting audit ,
  • Submitting a bid for a foreign public contract ,
  • Tax audit or verification of expenses abroad,
  • Commercial dispute or debt collection ,
  • International business creation or banking application.

An inaccurate translation may result in a rejected application or a delay in administrative processing .

Simple or sworn translation: what's the difference?

Simple translation

Suitable for internal or commercial use (communication, quotes, internal accounting).
It has no legal value .

Sworn translation

Required for:

  • tax or legal procedures ,
  • cross-border refund requests ,
  • customs files ,
  • or international commercial contracts .

A certified translation is carried out by a translator accredited to a Court of Appeal , and includes:

  • the statement “certified translation true to the original” ,
  • the translator's stamp and signature ,
  • the certification date .

What elements should appear on the translated invoice?

A translated invoice must respect the original formatting and content .
The following elements must be faithfully reproduced:

  • the contact details of the sender and the client,

  • the date of issue,
  • the currency used,
  • the designation of the products or services,
